# Dinosaurs & The Bible
##### Wednesday Night Class 201204.24
+ How old do you say the Earth is?
+ How old does your science book say it is?
+ How old does the Bible say it is?
The age of the Earth is approximately 6,500 years old, give or take a century or two. **James Ussher**, a bishop for the church in 1650, sat down and attempted to calculate the age of the world using various genealogies, reigns of Kings, and astronomical events found in the Bible. He postulated that the world was created in 4114 BC. Historians and scientists today don’t think he wasn’t too far off.
Your science books tell you that the world is 4.55 billion years old. Or they might. Depending on what year they were written, that number could have changed. It’s changed hundreds of times in the last hundred years or so. You see, before about the 1800’s, people just believed that the Earth was a great deal younger than scientists say it is today. The idea of millions and billions of years only came about in the last 200 years or so.
But let’s indulge them for a moment.
### The *Theory* of Evolution
Even **IF** the world was millions and billions of years old, then The Theory Evolution (dosen’t anybody wonder why it’s still a *theory*?) still wouldn’t work. Why? Because of time. Time is the problem. Even if the world was billions of years old, it would still require a much longer amount of time (possibly trillions and trillions of years) for Evolution to work. Why? Because Evolution is based upon mutation.
Genetic Mutation is a change in the genetic structure of a living thing. Most mutations aren’t “awesome” like the ones we see in movies. They’re bad. And most of the time when a genetic mutation is bad, the organism can’t live with it.
Mutations are rare - 1 in 1M per gene, per generation.
Good mutations are very, very rare. A bad mutation cannot explain the rise of complex organisms, i.e. monkeys evolving or mutating into humans over millions of years.
Evolutionist George Simpson calculated that a population of 100 million people producing a new generation every day could expect to see a good mutation arrive every 274 billion years.
Mutation is not a feasible explanation, which is what the Theory of Evolution is based upon.
### So when did Dinosaurs live?
The word *dinosaur* was never used in the Bible. It was because the term wasn’t even coined until some British guy named Richard Owen used it in 1841 to describe his fossil findings in a report.
**Genesis 1.24-25** - Dinosaurs were created on the 5th day and coexisted with man.
But my science book tells me they didn’t coexist with man, that they lived millions of
years before man, you say. Really?
**What about dragons?** Dragons are widely publicized ‘myths’, but yet they have a part in every European and Asian culture dating back 3,000 years. People still today claim to have seen a ‘dragon’ named the Loch Ness monster in Scotland.
**What about the Indians?** Indians were in this land long before us ‘white Anglo-Saxon Europeans’ were. This petroglyph at Kachina Bridge in Utah illustrates an early Native American drawing of what appears to be a dinosaur.
The following two photos are of Incan burial stones. People used to paint these rocks black and then etch out pictographs on them to bury with their loved ones. You can clearly see dinosaurs here, even what appears to be a guy riding a dinosaur.
All these items aren’t just some hokey things that people found, they are in the Crystal Palace Museum in London.
It is entirely possible that dinosaurs were never as numerous as we think, and that they were tamed and hunted to extinction (elephants, whales, for example). We’ve seen a lot of that happen over the centuries.
### But they’re weren’t dinosaurs in the Bible.
*Are you sure?*
**Job 40.15-24 & 41.1-34** both describe giants beasts named Behemoth and Leviathan.
While in John’s vision, he still reports having seen great beasts and dragons in the book of Revelation.
