Perfect

What do you think about when you think of the word ‘perfect’?

• Some people may see their dream man or woman.
• Some people may see their favorite football team at 14-0.
• Some people may see a calm pond on a crisp morning, out for fishing.

Perfect is a word that’s used a lot. Sometimes we’ll say “This car is in perfect condition” or something along those lines. Sometimes we’ll even use that word in a negative, saracastic connotation - “I missed taking the garbage out today…PERFECT.”

Our savior Jesus Christ, a man who walked on this earth and was tempted in every form and fashion just as you and I are every day (and in some situations much worse), was perfect.

I don’t think that we grasp the fact that Jesus was sinless. I don’t think we often realize that we serve a perfect, sinless, master. A master who did no wrong, ever. A master who was tried and convicted for crimes and sins he didn’t commit so that we could have eternal life.

Jesus even tells us about himself and about his Father in Matthew 5.48:

“You must therefore be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

There’s lots of things we don’t think about every day. But I just wanted to remind you that we don’t just serve a man, we serve Jesus, the Son of the Living God, who was perfect in every way.
