Do we give God our best - or just the best of the rest?

Do we give Him our best - or maybe just the best of what’s left over?
The Rich Young Ruler - Luke 18.18-23
- We can compare the rich young ruler to ourselves in many ways
- The RYR knew God’s commands - just like us
- We know Bible precepts, what it says, the stories of the OT, Jesus’ example
- But are we able to give up the world to follow the Bible?
- The reason why the RYR couldn’t fully follow Jesus is because he was still of the world
- ‘In’ the world = we live in it, ‘of’ the world is being a part of it
- We get caught up in the world too!
- There are lots of important things in life: staying away from bad things like drugs and alcohol, getting an education, meeting that special someone - but NOT if it hinders you from your relationship with God.
- Chaff and Flares: our planes were slow, to evade missiles we would use little bits of aluminum foil and flares while doing evasive maneuvers
- We get distracted! We go for the chaff and flares instead of our main objective sometimes
- We must focus on Jesus
- Hebrews 12.2 says “look to Jesus” [NASB “fix our eyes”]
- Jesus is our main objective, His mission is our mission, and he deserves our best!
So today are you giving God your best? Or the best of just what’s left over?
