Faith Move

Taft Ayers had a lot of good stuff to say in our devo at Miller’s Thrillers last week, but one phrase hit me and has stuck with me all week.

He said, “It’s time to move your faith. Make a faith move.”

We’re waist-deep in football season now, college has a month to go plus the bowls and the NFL is heating up. What happens when a receiver catches the ball, and almost immediately fumbles the football? What are the refs looking for?

They’re looking for something called a “football move.”

A football move is described as any movement that a ball carrier makes after getting the football to show that he has control and maintains possession at least for half a second. We’ve seen several situations where a receiver catches the ball and goes to turn upfield and is smacked by a defender and the ball comes out. What the refs look for is did the receiver have possession, did he control the ball, and did he make a “football move.” If he did, it’s a fumble.

That got me thinking. How many times have we been on a spiritual high after a camp or a retreat and felt that our faith was really moving, only to fumble when we go back to school on Monday morning? We didn’t even get time for God to move our faith.

In Matthew 17.20, Jesus says this after talking to some of his disciples who were unable to cast a demon out of a man: Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not cast it out?” He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”

Tonight, how is your faith moving? Are you moving forward in your spiritual life like a flowing river, or are you as stagnant as a green country pond? Rivers are always flowing, always moving. Don’t ever stop moving your faith forward.
